1. Game Overview
JANTORI is a 2-player board game that combines Rock-Paper-Scissors with territory control. Players place Rock-Paper-Scissors pieces on a 3×3 grid board, defeating opponent pieces and restricting movement options to score more points.
2. Game Setup
- Each player receives their colored Rock-Paper-Scissors pieces.
(4 Rock, 4 Scissors, 4 Paper - 12 pieces total) - Place player markers:
- • White player marker → Top left of board
- • Black player marker → Bottom right of board
- Determine first player (e.g., by Rock-Paper-Scissors).
(White goes first, Black second - recommended)
3. Game Flow
On your turn, you must perform the following in order.
【1】Place a Rock-Paper-Scissors Piece
Choose one piece from your hand and place it in one of the following locations:
✓ Valid Placements
- Normal: Adjacent to your player marker (up/down/left/right)
- Jump: 2 squares away by jumping over opponent's player marker (up/down/left/right)
✗ Invalid Placements
- On opponent's Rock-Paper-Scissors piece that you cannot beat (including ties)
Example: Cannot place Scissors or Rock on opponent's Rock - On opponent's player marker
- Diagonally from your player marker
【2】Move Your Player Marker
Move your player marker to the location where you placed your Rock-Paper-Scissors piece.
In other words: Valid placement locations = Valid movement locations for your player marker.
4. Game End
The game ends when one of the following occurs:
Pattern 1: Unable to Place Pieces
If it's your turn and you have pieces remaining but cannot place any piece according to the rules, you lose immediately.
Pattern 2: All Pieces Placed
When both players have placed all 24 pieces, calculate the score by adding up the point values of the top piece in each cell:
0 points
2 points
5 points
The player with the higher total wins.
In case of a tie, the first player (White) wins.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can I place a Rock-Paper-Scissors piece where my opponent's player marker is? ▼
A. No, you cannot. You cannot place a Rock-Paper-Scissors piece on a cell occupied by your opponent's player marker.
Q. Can I stack my own pieces on top of my other pieces? ▼
A. Yes, you can. This allows you to increase point values (e.g., placing Paper worth 5 points on top of Rock worth 0 points) or make it harder for your opponent to capture.
